About Us

The Relocatable Housing Department provides safe, flexible, and code-compliant interim facilities solutions that support the educational and operational needs of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The department is responsible for the planning, coordination, installation, certification, management, relocation, and removal of modular and relocatable facilities, including classrooms, administrative offices, restroom buildings, and specialized instructional spaces. These facilities enable the District to accommodate enrollment fluctuations, support modernization and construction programs, address emergency and operational needs, and ensure continuity of educational services while permanent facilities are being developed, renovated, or repaired. The department also advances District sustainability and greening initiatives by facilitating the strategic relocation or removal of temporary facilities to support outdoor learning environments, green spaces, and campus enhancements that benefit student well-being and engagement.

Responsibilities

The Relocatable Housing Department oversees the planning, implementation, compliance, management, relocation, and removal of relocatable facilities throughout the District. The department coordinates site assessments, facility deployment, asset management, and stakeholder engagement, while managing Division of the State Architect (DSA) approvals, certifications, and closeout requirements to ensure compliance with applicable building, accessibility, and safety standards. Through collaboration with District stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies, the department provides safe, efficient, and code-compliant interim space solutions that support educational programs, modernization efforts, operational needs, and emergency response activities.
