Filming Permits

John Marshall High SchoolThe Real Estate and Business Development Department is responsible for the review and approval of filming activities that occur on District-owned properties. News and media requests must be coordinated through LAUSD’s Division of Communication, Engagement, and Collaboration.

FILMLA

The District utilizes FilmLA, a nonprofit organization contracted by the District, to coordinate commercial filming and process filming permit applications on District property.  FilmLA’s services include filming, still photography, crew parking, base camps, and other related production activities,

FilmLA works directly with District staff to review proposed filming activities to determine whether the requested use is appropriate, and identify any necessary operational safety requirements.
 

Production companies should first contact the school to confirm availability, then submit an application through FilmLA.FilmLA coordinates the District review process and administers permitting, insurance requirements, and applicable fees. Additional requirements may apply depending on the scope of production. 

  • School principals and staff may not approve filming or sign filming-related agreements on behalf of LAUSD.

  • Requests involving students, staff, or the use of District or school names, logos, or mascots may require additional District review and approval.

  • Donations may not be offered or solicited in connection with obtaining filming approval.
