Real Estate & Business Development
The Real Estate and Business Development department of the District is responsible for all realty and strategic initiatives for facility use including the following:
- Community Use Licenses and Permits: To allow for the use of all District facilities by the community outside of instructional hours. If you are interested in renting our facilities, please refer to the ‘Community Users’ page to learn how.
- Filming: Many of our campuses are open to the film industry. If you are a production company looking to film at our facilities, please visit the ‘Filming @ LAUSD' page to learn how.
- Joint Use and Partnerships: The district is always open to innovative and strategic uses of our facilities. If you are another government entity, park developer, or private entity looking to develop or program District spaces collaboratively, check out the ‘Joint Use and Partnerships’ page.
- Housing: The District has and continues to look for opportunities to provide more housing opportunities closer to the District workplaces. If you are a developer or district employee looking to learn more, click on the ‘Housing Initiative’ button.
Additional initiatives currently in action:
LAUSD is one of the major land holders in Los Angeles County. The District has acquired and developed more than 1,300 schools and centers and 21,000 buildings. Real Estate and Business Development staff are available 7am – 4pm Monday through Friday. If you have any general facility use questions, please email [email protected].
Community Users
The District makes its facilities available for use by the public, when possible, outside of instructional hours. Any community use of District facilities must be documented and authorized by an agreement. The types of permits and licenses include but are not limited to:

- Civic Center Permit
- Short-Term Agreement
- Long-Term Agreement (requires Notice of Intent)
- Lease
School/District Sponsored Events
For on-site District events a formal agreement with Real Estate is not required. District employees should submit a Request for Facility Use application for "School/District-Sponsored Special Events" to obtain approval from Risk Management.
Off-Site Events
For District events at non-District owned property, the form "Request for Approval of Off-Site Special Event" must be completed.
